Abstract
Amazon (EC2) designed to make web-scale computing easier for developers. Amazon EC2’s simple web service interface allows obtaining and configuring capacity Amazon EC2 provides developers the tools to build failure resilient applications and isolate themselves from common failure scenarios. One needs to pay only for what they use. There are no minimum fees. On-Demand Instances lets to pay for compute capacity by the hour hence one is free from the costs and complexities of planning, purchasing, and maintaining hardware. Amazon (EC2) is convenient to use and economical.
Main Body
EC2 allows scalable deployment of applications by providing a web service through which a user can boot an Amazon Machine Image to create a Virtual Server, which Amazon calls an "instance", containing any software desired. It offers features such as OS, Persistent Storage, Elastic IP Addresses, Amazon Cloud Watch and Automated Scaling. Amazon EC2allows users to create, launch, and terminate server instances as needed, paying by the hour for active servers.
Amazon EC2 Amazon announced the following features: a service level agreement for EC2, Microsoft Windows in beta form on EC2, Microsoft SQL Server in beta form on EC2, plans for an AWS management console, and plans for load balancing, auto scaling, and cloud monitoring services. These features were subsequently added on May 18, 2009.
Virtual Servers
EC2 uses Xen virtualization. Each Virtual Server, called an "instance", functions as a virtual private server. The system offers the following instance types:
• Micro Instance
• Small Instance – default
• Large Instance
• Extra Large Instance
Based on capacity of instances High-Memory Instances, High-CPU Instances and Cluster Compute Instances are also offered.
Amazon Virtual Private Cloud is a commercial cloud computing service that provides a virtual private cloud, allowing enterprise customers to access the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud over an IPsec based virtual private network.
Amazon Cloud Security Policies
Amazon has laid down security policies for its clients so that hacking and other security concerns can be taken care of. Policies laid down are as follows
• Check before connecting
• Encrypt as much as possible
• Open to only the trusted ones
Amazon Disaster Recovery Programs offers customers the ability to reserve large amounts of capacity for future use. The feature, known as Reserved Instances, is the latest in a series of steps by Amazon to make AWS more attractive to enterprise users
